Horcajo

Location

It is located in the North of "Extremadura" on the west of the region" Las Hurdes", between 40°18´ latitude north and 6°28´ latitude west and 460 m. above the sea-level.

Access

The access is quite easy by the road Ex- 204 in both directions, coming from "Coria" as well from "Salamanca".

Once you arrive to "Pinofranqueado" take the direction "Robledo". You will find the indication to "Horcajo" after the crossroad of "Avellalar".

History

The origin of the name of the village is very clear. It means place where two rivers join.

These two rivers are the river "Horcajo" and another one coming from the mountain range.

What to visit

Places

We recommend to visit the old part of the town, where we can see some typical old houses. Also the surroundings are to recommend, where the visitor can enjoy the nature and the variety of colours involving everything.

Free time

The visitor can do some activities organized by the Centre of the Nature called "El Castaño". To get more information about further activities go to the "Documentation Centre" in "Pinofranqueado".

Where to eat & sleep

The visitor can have some drinks in the different pub in the next villages.

Artesian works

There are no more artisan workers at present.

The few of artisan work done in town ( in wood and osier) are for private use of the population in town.

Bath zone

The visitor can take a bath in the natural swimming pool by the river going through the village.
