The Traditional Slaughter

This celebration dates from the year 2000 and it seems possible to remain for a while. The traditional slaughter has always been practiced in the region, firstly being the animals put on weight over the year to be slaughtered at some time between November and January for the consummation of the people of the region in the next months.

While the act of slaughtering the pig a close relationship between neighbours and family members was obtained, as everybody was helping each other during the process.

The initiative coming from ADIC-HURDES pretends that this festivity will become a celebration for all the region, being repeated every year.

On that day the pig is sacrificed following the traditional rules and afterwards consumed by all the persons taking part at the party. People eat and drink a lot and traditional animation by a group of tambourines and some typical dances is offered.
